Present Perfect Simple Tense

We use this tense when we talk about actions that started in the past with a result in the present:

Affirmative:SUBJECT+HAVE/HAS+DONE+OBJECT

Negative:SUBJECT+HAVE/HAS NOT+DONE+OBJECT

        Laura has broken her arm.                            William has done the ironing.   

          

     She has grown so much!                       We have decorated and lit the Christmas tree.

    She can eat all by herself now.

 

We also use this tense for experiences:

Have you ever seen Taj Mahal?

She has ridden a camel in Egypt.

Mike has never tried bungee jumping.

They have climbed Mount Everest.

   -No, I’ve never been to India.

 

We generally use Present Perfect Simple Tense with vague (unspecific) time expressions: already, just, yet,once, before etc.

Examples:

  • - Have you taken out the garbage yet?          

         + No, not yet.                                                      

  •  - Let’s watch The Lord of the Rings!

          + But I have already seen it.

  • Her eyes look red. She has just woken up.        
  • People have walked on the moon before.
